Cancer Biobank

The King’s Health Partners Cancer Biobank is well-established. Our organisations have a long history of tissue and data use across the UK and Europe. We want to significantly enhance our resources to include biobanks for different types of cancer. These are essential in understanding what causes cancer, which treatment options are likely to be effective and how to improve patient care.

Our aim is to collect tissue and blood samples from all patients attending Guy’s and St Thomas’ who have a diagnosis or possible diagnosis of cancer.

A single service
We have five ethically approved cancer biobanks working as an integrated service. They are breast, head and neck, thoracic, upper gastro-intestinal (UGI), and prostate and other urology cancers. Click here to see staff working in our cancer biobanks.

The biobanks meet current legal and ethical guidelines associated with tissue collection and use for research and have a Human Tissue Authority licence and approval from a Research Ethics Committee.

Governance
The King’s Health Partners Cancer Biobank Management Committee oversees all aspects of governance and management.

The King’s Health Partners Cancer Biobank is a member of NCRI Confederation of Cancer Biobanks (NCRI CCB) and European, Middle Eastern and African Society for Biopreservation & Biobanking (ESBB)
